New Number 1's 10/19/16

Another Tuesday another batch of new comics. This week I am trying to cut it down to the five most interesting looking comics that are coming out this week. DC is continuing to launch its Young Animal line and Marvel is Launching Marvel NOW. The Young Animal line is on the stranger side and I don't think those books are for me, but they were selling well.  I find it very interesting that Marvel is launching it's new line without one of it's biggest books headlining it and instead using Champions as the launch pad.  My Local store had so many on their shelves the week it came out and still have a ton almost 3 weeks later. Can't image that is a good sign of what is to come.  Anyways, here is what is coming out this week.

W: Kate Leth A: Megan Levens
Spell On Wheels #1 - Three young witches are robbed of their magical items, and they'll have to hit the road to track down the mysterious thief before he does any damage to - or with - their possessions.

This looks interesting. Harry Potter type road trip or a darker The Craft approach.  Either way I will be picking this book up. Dark Horse has been putting out some great books lately.  Hopefully the trend will continue in this book.

W: Gerard Way - Janathan Rivera A: Michael Avon Oeming
Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye #1 - Cave Carson has done it all: survived countless adventures below the Earth's surface, met the love of his life, and gotten a cybernetic eye... somehow. After he and his wife, Eileen, sent their only daughter Chloe off to college, Cave was ready to become just another mundane member of the surface world. That is, until Eileen got sick. Newly widowed, Cave tries to piece his life back together when a knock on the door of his secret underground lab pulls him back into a past that he and Eileen thought they had left buried deep within the Earth. Adding to his troubles, Cave must determine if his recent hallucinations and visions are the work of his mind or his mysterious cybernetic eye. (Spoiler: It's the eye.) Written by Gerard Way (DOOM PATROL, Umbrella Academy) and Jon Rivera (Heartbreak), and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming (Powers), this is an absurdist action-adventure story unlike any other!

The name of this book is a mouthful, however, reading the solicit, this reminds me of Tom King's Vision for some reason. Again, the Young Animal line has been a little strange, but might have a hidden gem in them. I have never read the originals and am unfamiliar with their backgrounds and adventures, so this should be interesting.

W: Jashua Corin A: Todd Nauck
Deadpool Too Soon #1 - It’s the Deadpool team-up you’ve all been waiting for! The Merc With a Mouth joins forces with the likes of Squirrel Girl, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Ant-Man, Howard the Duck and the Punisher to solve a murder most foul! Someone has murdered the Forbush Man! Could someone be targeting some of the Marvel Universe’s funniest heroes for death? That’s certainly what Deadpool thinks, and he’s gathered a number of characters in a spooky old mansion (naturally) to help crack the case. Good thing Deadpool is known for his world renowned investigative skills! But as more bodies start turning up, can these heroes solve the mystery before their goose is cooked?

This seems like an odd team up that no one was asking for. However, now that it has been solicited, this sounds like it should be really goofy and fun and worth picking up. I am hoping this turns into the book that I never knew I wanted. There is incredible potential here to make one of the funniest books out there. Additionally, with Todd Nauck on the book and his fantastic art, seems like this book is a can't miss. Fingers crossed.

W: Brian Michael Bendis A: Alex Maleev
Infamous Iron Man #1 - There is a new Iron Man in town and his name is VICTOR VON DOOM. The greatest villain of the Marvel Universe will try something new. Where Tony Stark failed, Doom will succeed. What is Doom's Master Plan?

I really enjoyed the Superior Spider-Man and hoping that this is in the same vein. Doctor Doom as Iron Man has potential to be a great book because it can do anything it wants.  If they want to make him president, they can, which I hope they don't. They could go the same way as Superior Spider-Man and make him the better Iron Man or they can turn Iron man in to the Injustice version of Superman, ruling with an iron fist. Any way they play this, this book is going to be interesting.

W: Mike Johnson A: Tony Shasteen
Star Trek Boldly Go #1 - STAR TREK's 50th Anniversary Celebration continues with this all-new series following the adventures of Captain Kirk and the iconic crew! New worlds! New species! New ships! And a new danger unlike anything the Federation has encountered before! Boldly go into a new era of STAR TREK! Following the events of Star Trek Beyond! The debut of brand-new uniforms for the crew!

If you are a Star Trek fan this seems like a no brainer. I thought the latest movie was an action packed popcorn flick. So if this books follows the events and keeps up the quality, it seems like it would be a staple of anyone's pull list.

Well that is it for today.  If you think that I missed something or that this is all stupid please let me know in the comments.
