5 Must Buys 9/14/2016

What up guys. A new week a new batch of books that we have to read.  This was the hardest week that I can remember to get down to five books.  This is a strong week for independents, there are 5 Image books that I could recommend this week.  DC is still going strong with Rebirth and Marvel has a couple books not related to Civil War that look pretty good. So here we go.

Book of the week
W: James Tynion A: Eddy Barrows
Detective Comics #940 - 'Rise Of The Batmen' part 7! This epic concludes with a battle against the Colony that will change Batman's world forever-and in a way you'd never expect! Whether they win or lose, they've already lost.

Tynion has been doing a great job with this book.  This has consistently been the strongest book that DC is putting out right now.  The last issue left off with a cliff hangers, wherein it looks like Tim Drake is in danger, grave danger, is there any other kind (if you get that reference mad respect). Depending on what you read and believe it looks like they are going to paralyze Tim and make him the Oracle or the less likely option, kill him off.  If you aren't reading this right now, jump on this book ASAP. The one complaint that I have about this book, if you can even call it that,  is that I wish they would use Clayface a little more.

W: Brian Wood A: Mack Chater
Briggs Land #2 - Grace's first test as boss of the Briggs' territory presents itself: bring her sons together in the aftermath of an attempted assassination. Nearby, two ATF agents start to dig into the family business.

This book was an interesting read and I am excited for the next one to come out.  The ending was ambiguous, I thought that 2 of her sons may be involved in the attempt on her life, but was told that I read it wrong.  I am excited to see where they take this and how their organization is set up.

W&A: Joelle Jones
Lady Killer 2 #2 - Josie accepts an offer to team up and discovers the partnership is a match made in hit heaven. But not everything is smooth sailing when the local hit squad discovers who her new partner is.

The first Lady Killer series was great and they continue that greatness in this book.  Josie is still continuing her killer ways.  The opening scene in book one with the sisters and the Tupperware party was fantastic.  I would describe this book as Dexter mixed with James Bond set in the 60s.

W: Jeff Lemire A: Andrea Sorrentino
Old Man Logan #11 - THE SAGA OF THE LAST RONIN CONTINUES! LOGAN is forced to confront the mysterious SILENT ORDER, a group of warrior monks who threatened his life in the WASTELAND! Logan will have to team-up with LADY DEATHSRIKE in order to escape his foes, postponing the revenge he desperately wants to take against her, one of his oldest enemies. Will the might of both Lady Deathstrike and Logan be enough to escape the lair of the Silent Order?

This is currently my favorite Marvel book. Sorrentino's art is perfect for this world. The flash backs to things that have happened to Logan are amazing and give more depth to the original story as well as making this story more intriguing.  Logan having to fight a bunch of crazies in Japan with diminished powers. Of course he will win, but how?

W: Nick Spencer A:Steve Lieber
The Fix # 5 - NEW STORY ARC Roy meets The Mayor.

The Fix is a great read that if you aren't reading, you are really missing out. This is a funny/buddy cop book wherein the cops are ruthless and will do whatever it takes to get what they want. The way they go about getting what they want may not be the smartest way, but definitely the funniest. I am very excited for the new arc.

Honorable Mentions - Action Comics, All-Star Batman, Deathstroke, Flash, Wonder Woman, Birthright, Black Monday Murders, Southern Cross, Spread, Throwaways, Black Panther
